Giving people a way to explore threats detected in Google Play and other app markets.

problem

Mobile adoption was growing rapidly and huge waves new apps were being added to the marketplaces by hobbyist developers, startup and name brands alike. As consumers installed some of the apps they unknowingly exposed their devices to malware. It was a whole new threat landscape that Symantec wanted to educate people about.

solution

Working with proprietary data and a crackerjack team of designers and developers, I built an interactive application for people to explore the threats in the app markets. This was a custom data visualization where people could drill in to different app market categories and view information about malicious apps. The tool was shared with press at Mobile World Congress and hosted on the mobilesecurity.com property.
